FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
IS THIS A REAL GOLF PUTTER OR A DISPLAY MODEL?
Approved designs are intended to produce playable putters when built per instructions.
DO I NEED A 3D PRINTER?
Yes, or access to a printing service.
IS THE SHAFT/GRIP INCLUDED?
No. The shaft and grip are user supplied.
WHAT FILAMENT SHOULD I USE?
The PX7 body prints in PLA and the face plate prints in TPU. The build guide recommends ELEGOO Silk PLA or SUNLU Matte PLA for the body and OVERTURE or YOUSU TPU 95A for the face plate, with exact products and links in the source-it-yourself hardware guide. One caution: PLA softens in heat, so don't leave a PLA putter baking in a hot car.
WHAT SLICER SHOULD I USE?
The STLs are standard files that work in any slicer. Bambu Studio, OrcaSlicer, and PrusaSlicer all work fine. Use the PX7 3D Print Settings Guide for the recommended settings.
HOW MUCH BRASS DO I NEED?
Each design supplies an exact cut list. The Universal Core Kit is built around an 11-inch brass standoff rod cut to size.
CAN I SELL PUTTERS I BUILD?
Personal-use STL licenses do not grant commercial manufacturing rights. See Commercial Builders for details.
CAN I SELL MY DESIGN ON DIYP?
See the Designers page for submission requirements.
WHAT 3D PRINTER DO I NEED?
The build plans are compatible with most 3D printers on the market.
WHAT MATERIALS DO I PRINT WITH?
It's a combination of PLA and TPU. Very common materials, nothing exotic.
WHAT TOOLS DO I NEED FOR ASSEMBLY?
A soldering iron with a heat-set insert tip for the M3 threaded inserts, plus basic hand tools. The hardware kit includes the inserts, screws, tape, weights, and brass bar. Shaft, grip, and general tools are supplied by you.
WHAT DOES THE PUTTER HEAD WEIGH?
300g with the premade hardware kit. If you source materials yourself, you can easily get to 350g, and the steel tour face upgrade gets you to 370g+, which is tour head weight.
HOW MUCH LOFT DOES THE PX7 HAVE?
2 to 3 degrees.
HOW DOES IT ROLL?
If you like center shafted putters, it rolls as good as production models in the store. It's face balanced, so the face stays square through the putt and stays on its line. It's been my gamer for the last two months.
WILL THERE BE A TOE HANG VERSION?
Yes. We're just launching, and a lot more putters are coming soon, including toe hang models.
IS THERE A LEFT-HANDED VERSION?
Yes, it's super easy to make a lefty version. We're making it more prominent in the build directions.
CAN I DESIGN PUTTERS FOR DIY PUTTERS?
Yes. We're looking for designers to grow the putter lineup around the assembly kit. Reach out if you want in.
WHAT DO I NEED TO BUY TO BUILD A COMPLETE PUTTER?
A 3D printer with PLA and TPU filament; a PX7 package (Full DIY if you want to source the hardware yourself, Build Bundle if you want the hardware kit in the box); a putter shaft and grip, which are always bought separately; and a soldering iron with a heat-set insert tip for the threaded inserts. The 10-part PX7 video build guide walks through the whole build and access is free.
